Need help removing 6 disc CD changer

Hi there:

I have an '07 X5 with premium sound, but because it is a 2007 it didn't come with a DVD changer, only a CD changer. Does anyone have a DIY for removing the 6-disc CD changer in the glove compartment so I can replace it with a DVD changer? I found a DVD changer on eBay for cheap, but can't find a DIY to remove the old CD changer.

Many thanks!

I posted some instructions previously.I'll check.... not sure you'll get it to work without recoding but perhaps that's what you intend to do...?

That will do it. Thanks!

Anyone have any experience doing this swap? I imagine it will need coding, but is there anything else I should be aware of? I'm hoping there are no other parts needed besides the DVD changer itself...

Thoughts??

How about the video output from the DVD changer to the CCC? Does the older CCC even support video input, unless they are running the video over the MOST bus, which I doubt.

Certainly coding will be required, and probably a later release of the CCC s/w. I very much doubt a center will be able to code it unless BMW offer a official retrofit kit .....

Hmmm, lots of things to think about. Well, let's just call this an experiment for now. The DVD changer only cost me a couple of bucks on eBay, so if it doesn't work, no problem really.

I'm having a hard time finding images of the plugs on the back of both the CD and DVD changers, but from what I have found so far, it all looks the same. Physically I'm thinking plug and play, but electronically...we'll see.

Any additional info is appreciated.

Craig

If you are saying that the physical outputs on the DVD player look the same as your CD player, you may have lucked out ....

The attached doesn't help ... much... but I would suggest that if you have the NAV you may have the right equipment... although there may well be a TV/Video interface that's required... BMW don't offer a retrofit kit that I'm aware of and the retail price of the DVD changer alone is around $1000...!!!! Recoding definitely will be required I would say....

Yeah I have NAV and rear seat entertainment, but I don't think the RSE will make any difference in this configuration. I'm fine with recoding, and through my research over the past few days, I think that's all it is going to take. Again, I only paid a couple of hundred bucks for the DVD changer, so if it doesn't work, no love lost, back on eBay it will go.

Thanks all for the help.

Were you able to get this retrofit working successfully? I'm interested in doing the same thing.
