Unhappy Steering wheel controls

Why is it when I press the "UP" arrow on the steering wheel, the lines moves "DOWN" on the screen, and "DOWN" on the steering is "UP" on the screen?!?

For example, listening to Sat or iPod, and you want the next song or station down on the list (toward bottom of screen), you have to press UP on the steering wheel.

Honestly, you think the brains at BMW would have that small detail sorted out.

I know it is a minor beef, but an annoyance nonetheless.

They did it so it would match the transmission control, where you push forward to go backward.

Consistency: the hobgoblin of BMW engineering minds.

Funf Dreisg

p.s. During delivery I programed one of the steering wheel buttons to turn off the iDrive display. When I start up our 35d the first thing I do is hit that button and life becomes much more rational.

also, the cruise control forward for faster and pull back for slower?! Which makes sense, even if nothing with the idrive does

It was a joke.

I think the up arrow moves to a higher numbered selection, which is lower on the screen.

This is "fixed" with the new iDrive. I had it in my 2009 335xi, and it will be in my 2010 X5d. It won't be fun having old iDrive in one car (535i), and new in the other (X5d). The down arrow on the steering wheel will change your selection going down the list.

doh, sounds a bit annoying
I've got an '08 and up means up/back, down means down/forward and I kind of like it like that, it matches most device controls I can think of
