fine if you have an E53 with Nav. You're a bit stuffed if not! Pimp my Nav is no use on E70.

StumpyPete you are mistaken... Pimp my Nav is also for the E70... I've used it for all my nav discs! SL and DL bmw prof. 2008 /2009... thats the reason I bought it... and it works like a charm on my E70...

Is this the same database used in say the Escort 9500ix but missing from their new Redline?

Why on earth would anyone who wants to go 15+ miles over the speed limit not have a radar detector? And preferably a V1

Yesterday, I exceeded limit by 45mph on I-95 and Merritt again. And yes, the conditions were safe enough to permit this. I wouldn't consider these speeds without 1) safe conditions and 2) the V1. And no, I'm not trying to "brag" -- I'm just trying to make a point that using a good radar detector has saved me for more than 15 years now!!

100 mph, Merritt and safe in the same sentence is an oxy moron. You people on the Merritt are nuts.

It is a great ride, though.

There are several variables here. First, it depends on the state where you got busted. In NJ, you get to "plead down" to a non-moving violation. It's zero points, but you do have to pay the price of the ticket plus a $250 state surcharge. You get to do this tactic twice in a 3-year period. And you do NOT need a lawyer for this. After that, you can no longer plead down and have to swallow the points. But even then, you can get the number of points reduced. However, at the third pleading you should get a lawyer.

The way to "plead down" on your first two tickets is to always plead "NOT Guilty" on the ticket. Then call the court telephone # listed on the ticket to ask for a court date. When you show up in Court, the local prosecutor calls folks aside before the main proceedings. This is where you tell him/her that you're willing to pay the fine but would like to avoid the points. Most of the time the prosecutor will accept your plea (unless you were doing like 120 in 65).

If you run into a stubborn prosecutor who will not budge, you can request an adjournment from the judge and show up next time with a lawyer.

Not sure if it works the same way in NY State. But the take-home message is never, EVER plead guilty and just pay the ticket. Yes, you'll have to go to Court when you plead 'not guilty'. And maybe you'll still get the points eventually. But you've got nothing to lose by fighting it (except time).

It does not. I don't find instant-on in use a lot. Cops in my area are heavy users of Ka band.

I have come across some instant-on situations but have received warnings when those been directed at traffic way ahead so I've been able to slow down enough. Have experienced those more driving up to Maine, Vermont, Massachusetts, etc.

EDIT: The Guys of Lidar have just completed some new radar detector tests. Look how well the V1 does Radar Detector Tests and Reviews by Guys of LIDAR - LASER

Here's the Instant On results:

The ticket itself says 21+ mph over I will be assessed 6 points if I plead guilty, which carries $100/year "driver responsibility" fee for 3 years to the dmv. It's definitely worth pleading down everything, BUT it looks like traffic violations bureau (TVB) which is the issuer here does not typically allow plea bargains. A lawyer would give me the best shot at winning if that's the case. Can anyone in NY confirm the no plea-bargain thing?
