I've had someone tell me of problems on their OEM wheels too and I've undoubtedly have had problems with my reps. The difference is if it's OEM the dealer is responsible for getting it right... as opposed to shipping your rims back and forth with all the mounting/unmounting. I have had a huge headache dealing with getting mine right. It really depends if the $1k difference is worth it to you.
It's only been 1.5 years but the finish is still good. It was a matter of build quality for me.
