All 2010 X35d X5s deliveries delayed until after October 19?

Hello All. So I've been checking on the progress of my newly minted 2010 X5 35d. Assembly of the vehicle was completed September 29. When speaking with the BMW call line to receive "real time" updates on the delivery (I need to arrange an air flight to the dealer in another state I've used for the last three BMW's) the operator seems confused as to why the vehicle hasn't been turned over to the carrier for transport and sees some "interesting" information on her screen. She can report that the vehicle was "turned over to the sales department on October 6th" but recommends I call the dealer to determine a possible delivery date.
I call the dealer, who has been following the vehicle's progress daily, and was told they to have received some "interesting information". Specifically, that all 2010 X35d X5s have not yet received EPA certification and that the certification is not expected until October 19th. Prior to that date, regardless of completion, the vehicles cannot be sold to the customer.
So it seems that everyone's 2010 35d X5 is on a "slow road to China..."

By the way, fantastic forum with helpful information and good cheer. Thought I'd contribute in some small way. I look forward to graduating into the X5 fraternity "up" from the previous M3 and 335 classes.

Welcome and good luck! I can't see why it would be any different than the 2009 model..

Let us know what you come up with...

There does appear to be some delay in EPA certification of some BMW models that will require BMW to hold onto them for a week or two until it's official. I just hope that nothing happens to the EPA MPG estimate that might impact the amount of the Tax Credit.

Hmmm...wonder if that impacts the deliveries outside the USA?

Shouldn't.

do you really think the X5 is better than an M3 as far as class? I'd really like to know from all owners.

Much different animals. I have both a '08 M3 and '08 X5 4.8i (both loaded up). The X'r is by far the best SUV/SAV out there IMHO. However whenever I drive the X5 after the M3, it feels BIG and sloooooww. But if I leave the X5 at the airport and return a few days later, the X5 feels incredible so I think it all about perspective. I wouldn't trade either and wouldn't want to go without either one because they are both perfect for their intended purposes (e.g. when I have to haul all 4 kids, the X5 is always my choice over our Range Rover, and when I don't the M3 will always be my first pick (at least until it snows)).
I hope that helps.

I read a different meaning into the word "class." Years ago when I was in the industry, a "class" was mostly defined by size, e.g., moving from a sub-compact to a compact, was going "up" a class, as was going from a full-sized car to an SUV.

It had nothing at all to do with perceived quality or prestige.

Perhaps he meant something as simple as from a 3 series to a 5 series...

yes that is true though i'm asking about the latter without so many words. The 3 is lower than a 5 but does the M make it equal in stature/prestige/quality/craftsmanship in people's eyes to an X5? Or do people see an M3 as just a really fast and capable 3-series? There, more words. Probably should not have thrown that out there in this thread, but someone mentioned it.
