Cost of window tint ?

What should I exect to pay for rear window and rear sides for a 35% tint?

And while we're on the subject, what is the cost for the clear film installed on the front bumper and hood ?

Just did mine -

Llumar Axcess ceramic hybrid film - 7 windows (all but windshield and moonroof) about $250 installed, with lifetime warranty.
Other popular tints are Huper Optik, Pinnacle, 3M. Search here and Bimmerfest for additional.

Also many opinions on clearbra - 3M, Avery, Stongard, Clearshield. A good install of the entire front end and mirrors can run $600+. Again, search for details.

Make sure you go with an experienced installer. Good luck-

Huper Optik ran me $500 for everything including moonroof (but excluding front windshield). Expensive. 3M usually runs around $200-300 installed.

What's the difference between factory tint and afftermarket tints ? Is the tint built into the glass ?

That, and you cannot remove or darken/lighten the factory chosen %. I don't think the front side windows come tinted at all from the factory option...

Huper Optik window tint

I did not order the rear climate package, so I had no tint on any windows. I did not want the Limo Look, so I opted for a 50% tint from Huper Optik. They have two types of ceramic tint. I chose the black shade over the silver, as I think it looks better on a white X5. Total cost for the 4 doors and rear window - $300. Because of the sun angle, this picture makes the tint a bit darker than actual. You can easily see the seats through the side windows, as it still allows you to see into the car.

We also had our first snow in Massachusetts last night......2 inches.

Dealer had their accessory dept. do the tint and charged $350 including the sunroof. Necessary for FL.

Most pathetic job ever. 30 tiny bubbles and ridges on the corner edges on EVERY window. Not a bad batch of tint and I waited about 10-14 days for the stuff to dry out. Careless service install and cheap crap tint material with an useless quality control dealership.

Had an independent guy take off that crap and put on Lumar with zero bubbles and ripples/rides. Eventhough its a bit darker tint, it is clearer and less cloudy than the original stuff. The guy charged $180 and lifetime fix if it peels or scratches.

Now I know why they call them stealors.

I had mine done at Tint King in MA. Dealer never offered this service, although they did offer the clear bra for $699. I go back next week to get clear bra installed at Tint King, for $600 including headlites.

It's pretty competitive in FL, so I paid $130 for all windows except the windshield. They used a film called Solar Guard with lifetime warranty.
