My local dealer (that I have a long standing relationship with) started at MSRP as well ("since they were already reducing the price by $4,500 from the Eco Credit"). It took about 8 seconds to get them down from there. Granted I didn't try all that hard, and generally I don't mind if the dealer makes a few $$$$ off me to ensure I receive impeccable service. I ended up at $2k over invoice (probably could have saved another $500-1,000 if I wanted to beat them up over it) and completed the deal over email in the course of about 40 minutes.

I am in California (San Francisco bay area.) The dealers here are very tough to work with. One claims he has been building X5 Diesels at MSRP and wasn't even interested to quote anything below. Hard to fathom with the current economy!

Thanks for the advice. I stuck with it and finally a local dealer took it. I got a build # right away from dealer's allocation. Dealer thinks it will be delivered in mid-Jan and says no problem with ECO. If you ask me, these deadlines are all a big sham. Dealers are using them to force customers into high priced contracts. My dealer knows the deal is off if I don't get the ECO credit. Now the wait is on...
