Sirius Satellite Acquiring Issue

I know this has been discussed in other BMW forums, but not specifically about the X5.

Problem: Since getting the car 4 weeks ago the Sirius satellite will intermittently stop working, the radio will fix at channel 255 with no sound. The display will show the available stations but nothing happens when a station is chosen.

The issue never occurs in the morning after vehicle has been off for the night. Usually, but not always, occurs after parking the car and re-entering after a short stop.

Once it occurs the only way to try to get it back is to turn off the car and park it for 15-20 minutes. May or may not fix it after restart.

I've read that some people with other BMW's who have the same issue will leave the key in the car for 30 seconds, allow the satellite to acquire, and then turn the engine on. I've tried this and it works 80% of the time.

My dealer has no clue what this is and asked me to bring it in when it happens. Drove all the way there, satellite "acquiring" for 1/2 hour, parkewd the car for 5 minutes, dealer comes to see, car turned on, satellite works normally. I feel like Lou Costello......

That problem should never happen and I've never had it occur in one of my BMWs. I would suggest your Sirius tuner box is defective, ask them to swap it out for a new one. That is a hassle since it changes what Sirius has on file for you.

Sounds like the box is having issues when it is warm.

I had Sirius re-send the satellite signal to the unit, so far no problems after 1 day...

mine (2008) has periodically locked on to channel 13. the presets don't link to idrive occasionally also.

i had the TCU replaced in August and i only just saw the channel 13 thing again last week or so.

my SOS system crashed and i got a high battery drain warning just prior to the TCU replacement.

The problem recurred....This time I brought the car into the dealer and was able to show the service manager the issue. He is checking into it today and will get back to me. He thinks its a software issue and mentioned that it could be a problem with my phone. He thought, but wasn't sure, my iphone was not approved for the X5 and that that could be interfering with the satellite radio. He was also aware of the same problem on the 3 series but not on the X5.

The I phone is on the approved list. I have an I Phone 3GS and I don't have any problems using my phone or satellite radio...

Did he have a dart board in his office by chance?
