i believe that button exists if you have Adaptive Drive.

Theres 2 sport buttons as far as I know, one for the sports adaptive suspension (comes with adaptive drive) and the other, located behind the gearstick and standard on all x5's which increases revs in the gears and allows for a long duration in the lower gears.
Can someone confirm this?

To put the tranny in sport mode you just push the shifter to the left. No button on my '08.
