2010 X5--Split Liftgate or single ?

The 2010 Onwer's manual.. online version p 31... shows a single liftgate... not the split style of prior X5's

For those with a new 2010.. what is the liftgate?

OK just found the answer...

The LIFTgate is the upper portion and the TAILgate is the lower in BMWspeak.. the TAILgate can support 550lb.... YEAH!

I hate the idea of a single version. I heard '10 Ms now come with it and it will be inherited by the future non-M X5s.

The biggest problem with the single in my opinion is that it will be longer and you'll have to step further back while it opens. It may not sound like much but it is a major annoyance if you have to do it all the time. Experienced it with my dad's minivan.

Anyone seen the Lexus LX SUV? That huge rear door swings open sideways... that has got to be aggravating opening that thing every time.

I have a mini van with one of those one piece liftgates and I have had several close calls with bypassers who came very close to getting hooked under the chin.

I had a Honda Ridgeline (pickup).... the gate swings open sideways or it can flip the gate down. It was ingenius design. However swinging open needs lots of clearance and flipping down causes you to reach further to put your stuff down.... Each has its pros and cons but having the flexibility of having the choice was priceless. Great truck design.

If they are going 1-piece they should go 1-piece for those that order auto-tailgate and 2 for those that do not.. at least there would be an option .. but a manufacturing & design nightmare and will never happen !!!!! I love a 2-piece over a 1-piece anyday even in my tailgates

I have a 2010 (woohoo). It's definitely a 2-piece.
