weird sound from door lock

It's not a big deal but it's been bothering me everyday... whenever I lock/unlock, the driver's side door lock makes a mechanical / electrical sound as it's moving up or down - lasts as long as it's moving. It's not everytime, but a lot of the time, usually when it's cold out. It's not the same as the passenger side where it's a solid sound, so don't think I'm crazy.

Anyone experience this yet? Am I looking at future problems here? I am thinking I should report things like this right away since they might claim "wear & tear" and not replace things (like potentially the peeling light switch). I also feel like if I build a laundry list of things, the dealer won't take me seriously.

I know my bro alexmish had issues with the doors not closing/not locking/not registering completely. Bro -- chime in.

Definitely bring this to dealer's attention. Obviously, there is a good chance the work log will say "unable to replicate", but at least you'll have something in writing for the next time it happens. Perhaps go straight to the service manager, grab him for a walk to the car on a cold morning and let him see/listen.

i recall having a whining/flapping noise coming out of my vents on my E53.. really difficult to replicate especially since it would sometimes go away or just unheard due to highway/music noise. I did notice it was louder on colder mornings than other days. So I took the car to the service at 6am, turned it off, waited till they opened at 7 and had the service manager walk to the car with me before ANYONE touched it. he confirmed the strange sounds and had to action the problem.

You do want to check it out as soon as possible, but as genemish indicated, wait for a cold day.

This was a known issues also to E53, with driver's door not latching. I suspect water gets in the mechanical components and freezes/messes up electronics and other moving parts.

In my case it was eventually replaced and well lubricated with heavy lube, but the upcoming winter will indicate whether the problem is really gone.

seems at this point it's just an audible problem, no locking/unlocking issue so far. Hoping someone else has walked in these shoes already. I'll try and record it.
