Rubber/Winter floor mats

I'm a bit confused on the availability of the rubber floormats from BMW. I understand there is a standard mat for first and second rows, and an option for a carpeted insert for the front for protecting your shoe's heel.

My question is.... for the rear cargo mat........no third row seating. How does the BMW map treat the cargo rails that come with the premium package 'storage option' ? Are their cut-outs for the rails ?

It appears from the photos in the accessories catalog that this mat goes to the side wall of the rear compartment, and has a 2-3 " lip on the sides to protect from spillage, etc.

I have a 3.5d and have installed the Weathertech rear cargo liner and the floor liners. The rear cargo mat from these guys does not have a cutout for the side rails and just lays on top of them. I have not found that to be a big disadvantage unless you need to tie something down in the back The overlapping lip is great for containing spills, etc. I really like the floor liners given all the rain we have had in the South this year. They have really protected the carpet in the front and rear seating areas and are very easy to vacuum.

I don't think they sell any cargo mats for the rear of any material that has cut-outs for the rails. You have to choose one or the other.

I have done the same with all my vehicles and already have the mat replacements.

Can you still use D-rings for a cargo net without any cutout?

I buy the Weathertech mat for every car I get. It's great, cheap protection. Don't cut out holes for the cargo hooks. That would defeat the purpose of the mat. Use either/or.

I have my mat set from Weathertech already but not my X5 til tomorrow.

The Weathertech cargo mat has what looks like is a cut out or recessed covering for the D-rings or similar cargo item at each corner.

My wife has an RX450h with the rear cargo mat but it does not have the same D-ring pattern cut outs.

Do these half dollar sized bumps corespond to something particular in the cargo area of the X5?

thanx

You'll need to tell us what you feel the Weathertech fit and finish are like. I've used their products in the past , and have had good results, although at times their finish is "close" but not perfect. I like the OEM mats for 1st and 2nd rows, but not sure about the cargo area.

I agree that Weathertech all-weather mats are great. In my current SUV, I have the digital fit mats for the front and second row. For the cargo area, I just have their cargo mats. Their digital fit mats have a super high lip (around 4 inches high) vs most all-weather mats that go up maybe a half inch (if that).

I'm definitely going to order the Weathertech's for my new X5 once I get it.

Living in the city, i found plastic mats for the passenger compartment to be unnecessary. Cargo mat is useful to me when I go skiing or camping. I used Weathertech cargo liner on my acura RDX and it was perfect. Fit, finish, lip, everything was just right. I am thinking of getting the same on my X5 once I pick it up. I want to check out the nets of the premium package and see what is the compromise. I also consider ordering it but only using when I go offroad, to retain the use of the rails for keeping grocery/strollers, etc

In my previous cars, I had the typical all-weather mats. I found that rocks and dirt still got onto the carpeted floor because the lip on the mats were so low. However, with the digital fit Weathertech digital fit mats, all the dirt, rocks, and debris stay within the mats since the lips is so high.
