Day 1 Observations

Picked up my x35d Vermillion Red w/Saddle Brown in Hartford last night. Drove to E. Brunswick NJ and Hazleton PA 350 +/- miles so far. Computer says 25mpg!

Bridgestones (which I did not want) seem to be noticeably softer than the Michelins that were on my '08. Replaced the Michelins at 40k, hope the Bridgestones last as long.

Love the low engine growl/diesel sound as opposed to the 3.0. (coming from a multi marque diesel owner)

Excessive heat is coming from under the drivers seat. No heaters are on, any one else notice this?

Was disappointed that the aluminum trim I had seen on the steering wheels of gas engined X5's is not on the 35d. Did I miss something here? Are there two different steering wheels for the model year between 3.0,4.8 and 35d?

Nav system is far superior, screen clarity is excellent, camera is much improved and night vision is actually acceptable. idrive is much improved IMO.

Pocket for phone got smaller, my phone no longer fits.

Took the flashlight out of my '08 before I traded it as I remembered someone here posted that it's no longer included and sure enough-not there. Makes me wonder what they do with the $2 they saved and how it's not justifiable to continue to provide it in lieu of annual price increases. However, there is an additional power socket located in the center console the '08 didn't have.

Stayed up till midnight installing the mudflaps and R & R the wheels to wax them...waxing the wheels???

Dealer couldn't supply promised floor mats...said they are on national back order???? Come on! Also, no module available for tow hitch wiring, again on national back order, so I cannot tow at this time.

Super pleased with the color whcih I agonized over, changing my mind several times. Passed a Q7 on the way down (which I actually considered) and felt even better! Consider myself pretty fortunate to have such a great vehicle! This is my second BMW purchase this year, the R1150RT being the first after my best partner told me I could get anything I wanted for my 60th birthday!

I have no heat coming from my drivers seat with the seat heater on off...

Congrats! Good choice, that would have been my colour combo as well.

Great write up, thanks for posting, and from a fellow motorcyclist, congrats on the R1150RT as well.

I was wondering about the cost saving measures that BMW seems to be taking these days as well... it seems like (from what I read on E90 boards) that 2009 or 2010 3-series is missing things like lining under the front hood, second outlet in arm rest compartment, pre-wiring for the alarm is gone, etc.

It seems like BMW is cutting everywhere they can to save a buck or two.
