Is anyone else surprised by this thread?
Why can't BMW properly document how their product is meant to work and stop us all from guessing?

This appears to be a problem with head-office documentation which then means the dealers are improperly informed as well.

Is anyone else finding this problem with BMW - lack of documentation on certain capabilities?

I haven't found anything incorrectly documented or missing from my manual as yet.

I have had inaccurate information from the dealer at times though.

This thread seems to highlight that BMW hasn't documented what we should expect when we purchase the tow pack.

In the UK the factory full electronic retractable tow bar gets its own manual!

Makes sense. Keep in mind in the UK BMWs are incredibly more common, and they're even used as taxi cabs, across Europe.

Here is the United States, the only taxi services that use BMWs are reserved for executives and even then it's extraordinarily rare to see BMWs used. Most companies use Lincoln Town Cars, with Lincoln being a Ford product.

The point being, it does not surprise me that BMW seemingly provides better service to those in the UK than here in the U.S.

Towing in the UK is also far more popular than here. As you know, many use even use their small compact cars to tow travel trailers across Europe.

Here you never rarely see that, and it's very rare to see even a mid-sized sedan towing a trailer. When it comes to such tasks, they're almost always reserved for SUVs or pickup trucks.

As to why BMW offers more options on UK BMWs, again is anyone's guess.

The manual is exceedingly poorly translated here in the United States. It's actually quite shocking. If a car company such as Kia can get it spot-on, one would think that a marque brand like BMW could somehow manage to do the same.

There are so many features of my 35d that are not mentioned in the manual, it's shocking!

As the days drag on, I'm starting to have some serious reservations about having purchased my BMW. The service has been atrocious, from day 1. I called BMWNA, and was connected with some bubble gum chewing 19-year old, who said she'd investigate my complaints, that she was shocked at what I had told her, and that she's get back to me within 24-hours. 10-days later....

I'm off to Call BMWNA...Thanks London Lad, now you've really got me fired up! I'm ready to do battle, now if my damn Apple iPhone could get reception.

You know the thing about Apple and Steve Job's is that they produce great looking products that work great only when......

Oh forgot what forum I was on. What was I even rambling about...oh yeah, how much I love my BMW! Damn it's sweet. Last night I was out in the pouring rain and it performed so fantastically! I had to meet a client at 9 p.m. and while walking back to my car, with flashlight in hand, I noticed a wire loose from its harness behind the front wheels which were turned towards the driver's side, allowing a clear view.

Lovely, 4,000 miles and I'm having to push wires back into harnesses. Come to think of it, pushing wires back into harnesses? I guess the who theory of making sure that wires are secure and can't be removed with simple hand pressure is beyond the scope of modern technology.

What the!

Damn I'm mad. London Lad, stop it. My BMW is a great machine! It's pure driving Joy and I'm going to be buried in that car! It will be the last car I own! My wife will give birth in that car. I'm going to eat and install a shower in that car. I'll never leave that car. It's going to be my place of worship. It will be my shrine.

My money pit. I'll go everywhere with it. I'll take it to the mall, to the movies, I'll take it out on dates. I'll take it to the park to play.

Stop complaining about the Ultimate Driving Machine. It's the most well crafted vehicle in the world, well maybe the Third-World, or the Second-World, but in one World, I'm sure it's easily better than the previously mentioned Kia...at least, it's of far higher quality than Kias of 10 years ago...well, I know for sure it's better than a Kia of 15 years ago, I think...maybe.

Actually, it's about on par with my 1986 Audi 5000, that I was given by my loving grandfather. The thing used to turn it's lights on, by its self.

I remember once I took it out, before I had my driver's license, and there was a cop across the intersection (I lived in the desert, so people drove at the age of 12 or 13, but still). The damn thing started flashing its high beams on, and off, on and off...on and off....

I drove back to my house to hide. In my fear I left the car door wide open.

5 minutes later there was a knock on the door from a police officer who said to my mother "if that were my son, I'd......" She thanked him and promised she'd have a serious sit-down with me. When he left she called to me in the backyard, from my hiding spot, said it was safe to come out, and asked me how my day was.

I said fine, but I'll never buy another vehicle manufactured in Germany again. I wonder if I'll be giving my 35d to my kid in 20-years....

Doubtful, how will he even start it, or open the windows...If it's anything like the Audi, it will last another 5-years before all hell breaks loose....

Ahh,,,how fun it is to be enjoying a beer at 12:00 p.m.

Carry on, all.
