Sorry - left a word out. Just saying that hitch programming may be fine even if idrive doesn't have zoom.

Found other references to missing zoom feature on other BMW sites - will be calling my CA this week to find out if it is missing programming or a feature only for M models of X5. I figure this is something that "should" be included for trailer hitch programming and will try to find out why it is not.

Probably not an M thing since BMW doesn't want a hitch on the M. A good thing for me since I need to tow and really want an M but my wife would leave me if I showed up with one.

Let us know what you hear. Sounds like this feature wasn't migrated to the new iDrive. I guess the question is, was the omission intentional.

It's a really tough choice, but my wife does things for me that an M can't do (yet). When technology catches up with my needs then........

Why don't they want a hitch on the M? Their press release touted the trailer stability control feature in the M models, and the rear camera has the zoom feature. They should offer the retractable electric hitch that was mentioned in some announcements, and which is available on the 5 series. Maybe they do, but I haven't seen references to it.

I had the dealer install the BMW hitch on my 2010 X5 35D with the technology package and I do have the zoom feature. After I put the X5 in reverse and get the top view on the screen I push down on the iDrive knob and the zoom feature shows up. To get lines to show up you have to go into the camera options and select to show parking assist lines.

The lines on mine do look different that the ones shown in the picture in the first post. I have not yet put the hitch ball in yet and backed up to a trailer to see if the lines change.

I will post a picture of my screen later.

When I took the X5 in for the hitch install I took a picture of the first post in and asked the SA if I would get the view shown and he called me later and told me that it was only for the M's. I guess he was wrong.

Chuck

2010 35d with factory electrically folding tow bar and electrics.

I don't quite know what you guys are refering to as 'zoom' but I can switch from normal reversing camera to top view or back again by pressing the idrive any time I am in reverse. I get the 'tow bar view' as shown in post 1 if I select normal view with the tow bar deployed. i can calibrate that view from the menue on the left of the screen. i don't need the tow bar electrics plunged in to see the 'tow bar view'

When a trailer is attached and electrics are plunged in, stability control is adjusted to compensate for the trailer. i think some other things are changed as well but i can't remember.
