Possible to change language on idrive?

Hi,

I just received my x5, and i noticed while i was trying to change the idrive menus to english, i only had the choice of deustch, italian, and french.

Is there any way to change this? is it linked to the map dvd? or its firmware? and would the dealership be able to fix it and what would the cost be.

Your help would kindly be appreciated!

Hi,

Mine, in Germany, comes with French, English and German as standard. But voice control is only in German. I guess it is possible to change language selection by program change at dealer. For the voice control in English the dealer was asking 100 Euros. As it does not work well in German we did not change and so do not use it.

In Switzerland you might need to talk to BMW-CH, They code cars for their regions (Lights, DVD, Radios, measurements, etc) and Switzerland has four languages already...

Thanks.

Well this is how the car came as. I bought used.

I am just wondering if its fixable and if so, is it by changing the navigation dvd or they need to reload firmware onto the idrive?

any ones input would kindly be appreciated.

It's interesting that Switzerland does not have English, as all the BMW rentals I've driven in Germany are installed with Deutsch, Italian, French, and Englisch. If it's not on your vehicle, I suppose you would need to have new iDrive firmware installed on the vehicle.

ok, so the whole firmware needs to be replaced?

is this something BMW dealers do often and would putting an english firmware be of trouble?

I believe it can be done fairly easily; the car might need to be in the shop for a day but I can't imagine it being impossible.

Unfortunately, I don't know but it's unlikely free. I'm guessing in the neighbourhood of 100 €. You can inquire at your local BMW Service Centre for a quote.
