Questions after First 1000 miles - 2010 X5d

I have a couple of questions after the first 1000 miles or so.

1. How do I know if the BMW Assist is working properly? The one thing I did try was sending a Google map to the vehicle - which failed to work. Could the dealer have messed this up, if so what do they need to do to correct this?

2. What features of BMW Assist should I see as activated without paying anything more (i.e. comes with the BMW Assist that I got with the package)?

3.I have read about the trunk lift assist that is missing on the 2010 - would installing the part void the warranty?

4.I am clearly seeing difficulty when getting going on a cold morning - the diesel I assume. Today was a real tester here - Cold! Are others experiencing this and is it ok to assume it is normal?
