I like the X6, but here are the negative issues brought out in some of the reviews: 1) heavy, 2) seats only 4, 3) severe limited rear visibility, 4) expensive, 5) options also very expensive but also highly desireable, many of which should be included in the base vehicle from the beginning, and 6) low mileage. Some reviewers have also suggested it is visually unappealing, but that is in the eye of the beholder. My take: the big negatives are: rear seating for only 4, ultimate cost when optioned the way you want the vehicle, and rear visibility. All of these could have been addressed by BMW. The end result is that customers will look at alternatives...

I've seen the X6 in person a few times (including the M) and I only like a couple angles on it (mostly from just the rear quarters). I don't think I can live with the styling full time.

Anyway, as someone who also has an '08 3.0si, I can see where you're going with it. If I were in your situation, I would wait for the twin turbo gas then make my decision on which X5 to get. The upgrade decision also has a lot to do with the new idrive... but the twin turbo I6 is tasty too.

BTW, mind if I ask how much they're offering for your trade right now and how many miles?

Yes, went through the same, we booked to test drive both. We went out in the X5 first and it ws all we expected, my wife then sat in the back of the X6 and that was as far as we got. It feels a touch confined for such a big car and this is down to the sloping roof, we couldnt get our heads around how it would work better for us vs an X5. I personally thought the GT would be a better bet than the X6.

haven't seen any bad ride reviews... can you send links?
The X6 has different technology than the X5 which gives it more agility. Dynamic Performance Control from BMWUSA site:
.Dynamic Performance Control switches power between the left and right rear wheels to stabilise the vehicle within milliseconds and help increase traction and lateral acceleration. Handling is lighter and more precise during normal as well as difficult driving conditions.

Why do you want a 2010? Other than the new iDrive there is no difference. Wait for the 2010 and get the X6 engine in the X5 body.

is this a fact?? will the twin turbo X6 engine make its way to the X5 in late 2010??

if that's the case then I will wait....

Have you test-driven both of them ? I suggest you try 4.8 X5 and X6 (5.0 and 3.5).

If you dont have kids, X6 is probably safe choice cargo space wise, but you should read cmyX6go review - lack of rear wiper, some rear view obstructions, etc and see if they make a difference for you.

As for the oversized parking extra fees in NYC - some places charge, and some dont. I drive-in in NYC quite often, and know a few places where they dont charge those fees. But in any, X5 and X6 are the same when it comes to paying the fee.

yes, i've tested both models... the 8 has awesome power but terrible gas mileage... the 6 makes more sense for me...

i really want the technical updates and I like the m-pkg option.. gives it a nicer look...

obviously more power isn't bad and I've always thought the perfect combo would be the X5 with the X6 twin turbo (non-diesel) engine...

after reading about some rumors that this may become a reality in 2011, I may just wait another year...

so the research continues....
