Gas shock supporting the trunk floor missing on 2010 X5 35D

My new X5 is missing the shock that supposed to hold the trunk floor open while I take the spare out. This seems to be more than one off issue. Funf posted on the same issue before, and there were others as well. I want to find out if the shock went the way of the toolkit and a flashlight, or is it a manufacturing issue? Does yours have it? Can you post the year and model of your car as well.
Thanks
