Check engine light?

Mine just came on for the first time yesterday evening. Went to the dealer first thing, and they told me it was a fuel vent valve? Out of warranty, but he said he "could do"' something. Part will be installed in the next few days when he gets the part.

It was on from 4pm yesterday, all the way till about 4pm today, with multiple turn on's/off's and no fill ups since Monday (gas cap ok.)

That's the light I got. I dropped her at the dealer this morning. They are reprogramming the DME

Dealer just called. It didn't need reprogramming. The DMTL pump valve needed to be replaced.

Thanks for the update.

The DMTL (Diagnostic Module - Tank Leakage) pump valve is probably the valve in the system that pressurizes the fuel tank to check for leaks. Did the dealer tell you any more details?

BTW there is a fascinating read in the 3series forum on bimmerfest of how complicated this system can be and why it may not be easy to get the light to go away even if it is not really a problem anymore. See post #4

Same thing happened to me last month with my 3.5d. Engine light came on, stayed on for a few days, then went off, and then went on again. Turns out it was a defective air temp sensor, which needed to be shipped from Germany. Took about 2 weeks to replace, as the first sensor they got was broken in transit. Got a 535ix as a loaner, which made things a bit more bearable.

You're lucky... My air temp sensor took 3 months to make it to my dealer and I had to call BMWNA, or who knows when it would have shown up.

The paperwork says:
Faulty DMTL Pump. Found FC2B29 as per ISTA diag code #D1330-B000000-01-002 Replace DMTL pump

BTW that was quick. I may have to resort to Italian pastries and a short skirt to get better service at my dealer. Although I still think that in my case, the short skirt might just frighten the staff

I called yesterday afternoon, brought it in at 8:30 this morning and was done at 11:00. I love Open Road, they take care of me all the time. I don't get $500 over invoice pricing, but I'd rather pay a few more $ for the purchase and get superior service.

As I posted in another thread I bought a new OBD II code scanner to capture the code(s) prior to taking our X5 35d into the dealer. The only code found was P007B which roughly sounds like a faulty Air Temp Sensor. I'm guessing this is the same one that failed on your 35d.

Penguin tracked down a likely part on RealOEM...

Could you confirm whether this is the part number of the Air Temp Sensor you had to wait so long for? I'd really appreciate it. And I'm pretty sure others would too
