iPod adapter fix not covered under Warranty !!
Long story short, got a quote for $260 from a local dealer! $56 for accessory and $190 for programming. Called bmwna and got a lame response from them. Definitely good cop bad cop going on here. bmwna opened a case for me but I am not hopeful. Any other suggestions? I know I can get a voltage correction adapter for about $30 but I really think this ought to be covered under warranty. I use a 3GS iPhone.

The supplied adapter gives you a warning when you connect a 3GS iPhone. The message says something like charging is not supported and gives you an option to put the phone in airplane mode. Say no and you will be able to control the music through the stereo. However the iPhone won't charge. The issue is that 3GS phones switched from 12v charge pins to 5V and old adapters no longer charge them. I need a fix for the voltage correction. Several people have reported that they managed to get the fix from their dealers without having to pay for any accessory or programming.

I have a 2009 and a 3gs. The dealer said that iPhones are not guaranteed to work but iPods are. My car did not want to communicate with the readers when I had a check engine light so they ended up reprogramming it last month in order to diagnose the air temp sensor. After that, my Y cable and the one they ended up giving me charge my iPhone. Hope this helps.
What if your idrive constantly kept crashing?? Then maybe they would have to update the software on the car....... |

I wouldn't worry about your relationship with the dealor. Their job is to help you. They will not mind, as you are helping them to solve a prolem.
I paid for the cable, but no longer use it. I just use my iPhone as an iPod attached to the headphone jack. I charge it with a standard cig lighter adapter. Oh, I wish they had BT audio.... |

I have a 4/08 X5, cable and iPhone 3GS. I get the same message. Say no. iPhone functions perfectly and charges. I get the same message w/my older Apple Universal dock (A1153). It too works and charges fine.
I tried using a USB card but it's flaky. Sometimes the car does not recognize it and I have to pull it and either reinsert it or turn the car off and on before it works again. That and managing the music manually and deleting the Apple resource files is a real pain. I also charge the iPhone in work using my very old iPod Mini cable (the one you have squeeze the side buttons to release). It too works fine and charges. I also got tired of forgetting the iPhone in the car, like others have posted in the past. So I finally broke down and bought a new Nano 5G. Funny thing is it works fine, no messages, in my older Apple Universal dock. Have not put in the X5, yet. |
