We have made a note and put it down to the extremely cold temps this weekend.

I will update if there is anything new to add.
You should have let them find the code. The light will come back on and you will want them to order the part. Cold temps don't have anything to do with the check engine light in my opinion.

Funf- good thread, good idea

Folks- PLEASE report the EXACT code that the dealer pulls. Insist on it. Not "bad sensor" but demand they give you the precise OBD/BMW code that set the CEL light.

It will help future owners.

A

I had the dealer fax over my service ticket.

Part # 13-62-7-812-741 Temperature Sensor

That's the part that took 3 months.

Thanks taking the time to report the exact part number Craig.

For those counting...
This is the 2nd confirmation of this part number. This Air Temp Sensor is on the tube/hose that carries the compressed air from the outlet of the Turbocharger inter-cooler to the intake manifold.

Well until we collect some more info, we don't even know that it is a 'common problem' on the 35d.

What we have now is...
* 4 reports of sensor replacements on a 35d
* 2 of these have been confirmed to be the same part number
* we don't know about the other 2 yet

And I will be taking my 35d in tomorrow with a CEL lit and an OBD II code P007B which points to an Air Temp Sensor.

Maybe there is a 'common problem' or maybe just a coincidence. Time will tell.

I think we're going to find this is a common problem. Keep us posted...

Thanks,

Craig

Well, my wife took the 35d in this AM. After a chat with our SA about the OBD II codes etc., he said they would do the diagnostics while she waited consuming lattes & pastries

My wife called back pretty quickly and said they were in the process of replacing the ... wait for it.....
Air Temp Sensor 13-62-7-812-741. Imagine that.
Amazingly, our dealer actually had the part 'in house', BUT...
only because they had ordered one for another 35d owner who hadn't scheduled to come back in to have it replaced yet*.

My wife just called. The repairs are completed. So this CAN be a 2 hour 'while you wait' repair IF your dealer has the correct part in stock.

I'll post more details when she gets back with the 35d and the paper work.

* Our SA says he sourced the part for the other 35d in 2-3 days and notified them when it came in a couple of days ago. So because of how busy the shop is, he can get another one, before he can schedule their repair.
