new X53d owner - ? about boost and non-staggered setups
This is my first post. I'm new to the X5, but not to car forums or customization. I own and built (even did my own ECU tuning) a highly modified subaru sti so I'm no stranger to wrenching. I hate to litter this forum with newb questions, but I assure you I searched and read the stickies. (not too many stickies I see). The X5 35d is for my wife and she made me take a blood oath to "you're not going to mess up my car like you did yours" - but I have gotten the greenlight to do a couple cosmetic mods. question about: Staggered wheels / rotate wheels etc... I skipped the 6500 21 inch wheel option. The stockers are (Style 210) 18 x 8.5 light alloy wheels, and 255/55 and as far as I can tell, are *not* staggered. I want to get some 20's but I don't want staggered wheels. I'm thinking of 20x9's with uni-directional all seasons. All my research says that would be fine. Anybody else run like that? Pictures? Has anybody hooked up a boost gauge yet to know what she runs? And lastly, does anybody have any other X5 forum recommendations for me? I really enjoy the engineering/ecu/tech type of forums. Thx! ![]() for my alc injection:

Thank you. I still have it. The turbo setup on it now is a rotated garrett 3076r .82 with tial external wastegate. It puts down a little over 400whp and 400ftlbs on the local dynojet on pump gas.

I don't see a problem why the wheel/tire setup you mentioned wouldn't work, but I can't give you a definitive answer.
Check here for some updates on boost modification in the works. Congrats on the ride, and awesome work on the sti.

I think i'm done researching and am ready to pull the trigger...
The things I try to get answers to before buying a wheel/tire are: -will it clear the calipers -is it the >correct< offset -will I need to get hubcentric rings -will I need new lugs/studs -Is the tire diameter as close to oem as possible * -Are the tires directional Now with the X5 -- a few more questions popped up -Can I get BMW center caps - yes -How/where what do i get TPMS - think I have that covered -Do I have to run staggered... answer is no -- -Will I be able to run a * 295/40/20 on a 20x9 all the way around and not get the wheel arch extensions? That I don't know about. Anyway -- I think these are the ones for me: EXE Konkourse EXE KonKourse - 20 inch staggered wheels for BMW 5 Series Tire Size Comparison Specification Sidewall Radius Diameter Circumference Revs/Mile Difference 255/55-18 5.5in 14.5in 29.0in 91.2in 694 0.0% 295/40-20 4.6in 14.6in 29.3in 92.0in 689 0.9% ![]()

[QUOTE=higx;694502]I think i'm done researching and am ready to pull the trigger... The things I try to get answers to before buying a wheel/tire are: Now with the X5 -- a few more questions popped up -Can I get BMW center caps - yes (Yes you can, $14 for the set at any dealer with a BMWCCA club discount) -How/where what do i get TPMS - think I have that covered (the '10's use different sensors then earlier models and they are not compatible with the '10's so you'll have to buy from a dealer. About $330 for the set from your local dealer with BMWCCA discount) -Do I have to run staggered... answer is no -- (No, you don't) -Will I be able to run a * 295/40/20 on a 20x9 all the way around and not get the wheel arch extensions? That I don't know about. (You'll need the fender extensions. I'm running 275/40/20's for winter wheels on our '10 3.5d and I should have the fender extensions on the front, but the back looks perfect. 295's will defin need extensions. I would also consider wider wheels if you are going to run 295's. I have 275 on 10" so 295's will run on 10-11" best. Check with tirerack, they have good chart resources for that kind of stuff)
