BMW Chip Tuning X5

Hi all,

Has anyone heard of these guys?

3SAUTOSPORT

They claim a 40 HP and 80 LB tq increase, better fuel economy by 15% and no acceleration hesitation for $545.00

Interested in seeing what other think about this or from anyone that has used their services.

Go with an established company with a "known" track record.

To answer your question: No, I've never heard of them in all my years as an enthusiast. Maybe I've just had my head in the sand? Who knows. Maybe others have heard of them and they're fantastic.

To me though, they seem to be an obscure company with a flashy website. Quite honestly anyone with an electrical engineering degree, an interest in automotive electronics, and a large amount of time on their hands, can flash an ECU (if that ECU has the potential to be flashed).

Though, keep in mind larger companies are working on the 35d night and day. Why would this small company have beaten them all to the punch?

It makes no sense. Furthermore, their response about the warranty issue is ridiculous, at best. That's not an answer I'd ever give to a customer of mine, when dealing with a $50 to $100k asset.

So if it were my SAV, I'd purchase from a well-known company, even if I had to spend a few hundred more.

I am NOT planning on flashing my ECU, but I saw their ad and was of course curious. That's it.

If its too good to be true...

The 3.0 gasoline twinturbo has a good chip from burger tuning I believe. They or similar company would be worth a try if I was not worried about BMW denying a warranty claim. bluefin from the UK branch of superchips in the US is also interesting and fairly well known.

I may be new here but

my experience with a domestic producer (GM) tells me that if you flash your computer, it IS detectable, no matter what the tuner may tell you. GM is now voiding power train warranties if they detect that you have "tuned" your vehicle. And there have been instances where the folks reflashed back to a GM tune and THAT was detected, and the warranty voided. Granted there is still a lot of debate about what you should or should not be able to do but why take that chance??
Now, if Dinan or one of the other tuners will back up the warranty, then you might be okay. Bottom line, if you are going to do a reprogram, do LOT'S of homework.

Good luck.
