Retrofit telephone docking cradle
I have a 2009 X5 48i, I have Bluetooth and BMW assist, I want to buy a(Eject Box) so I can put the snap in adapter for the specific phone I have, this cradle will have pwer and also the antenna connection, when I removed the cover to see if there was any wiring inside to connect could not see any. What do I have to do, if wiring is needed do I have to take the console out, any help and ideas and/or schematics will be highly appreciated The description of the cradle: docking cradle allows the use of phone "snap-in" adapters for charging the phone battery and connecting to an external phone antenna. Once the complete phone kit is installed, snap-in adapters can be changed in a matter of seconds to accommodate different phones. Vehicle must be equipped with Premium Package or BMW Assist with Bluetooth wireless technology. Eject Box for Snap-In(PN: 51 16 9 203 443) Screws(PN: 07 14 9 144 003) (qty:2) $214.78 |

You need the support frame, the eject box, and the snap in adapter for your model of phone. I am in the middle of doing to and just found out a third piece was needed. What a pain.

Can anyone take pictures of this mod? I saw it and I was wondering what it looked like and where it was installed?

In talking w/service the other day, I was told, that a phone connecting through Bluetooth uses the external antenna.
So adding an ejector box and snap-in adapter is really only a $400 convenience. And if you have 6FL instead of 6NF you loose the iPod functionality of an iPhone. Lastly, I would still probably keep forgetting the iPhone in the cradle like I do now when I plug it into the cable. My solution was a new iPod Nano (5G). $150 done. |

2. Take a moment to think about what you are saying: Somehow, when the phone connects to the BT (this is the same BT that connects to your earpiece, for example) it somehow "moves" the whole 'cellular radio system' from the phone to the car...so when it connects, the cell phone stops the call and a call is now being handled by the car's cellular connection? Oh, and it 'knows' if it is a GSM call or a CDMA call (ie att or verison) and uses the 'right' electronics.... or the antenna 'connection' (a .85 or 1.9GHz signal) is processed as now a BT signal (ruuning at 2.4Ghz)? ie not possible. Just because a dealer employee says it, don't just take it as fact.... |

Your not making any sense.
So if I hardwire my phone to the car, which disables the phone's internal antenna and uses the car's network and antenna. It will work. But if I connect to the same network through BT it would work differently. OK? |

All the BMW bluetooth stuff does is make your X5 into a very expensive hands free device AND pretty clunky computer connected to your phone via bluetooth

All BT does is act like a BT headset. Yep. |
