snow/ice interfere with comfort access

All,

have anyone here noticed that if there's snow/ ice on any of the handles the system won't lock/unlock the doors? was out driving in the snow yesterday and had the hardest time locking/unlock.. I had to resort to using the key directly. once i got the car back the garage and wiped off all the handles it started to work properly again.

thanks

-john

A few people have reported their cars are unlocking automatically as soon as their door handles become wet, for instance when they're washing their car.

Beyond those few complaints, haven't heard anything similar to what your describing.

Perhaps there was ice in locations beyond what you were just seeing, which melted upon driving the car into the garage?

BMW need to re-think their comfort access strategy..... its like 95% worked out. The other 5% is a PIA!

I know....you have to take your gloce out and let your finger melt the ice...very pratical when -20C

a bad design from day one, too sensitive for our climate

When I did get a snowpile on my X last year I didn't clear any of the handles of snow except the driver's door - enough to get a clean grip... it worked fine locking/unlocking.

So far so good through first winter. I've been out to the car a few times after work where as much 3 to 4 inches of snow fell on vehicle. Brushed snow off car/doors handles; no problem with opening/closing (lock and unlocking). Haven't found ice around handles yet. Vehicle is garaged each night.

happened again today... this time the reverse... car was locked... and fresh snow piled up on the car... when i walked near the car it unlocked automatically... it seems as soon as the key came within range it unlocked... I'm thinking the snow/moisture is triggering the comfort access sensor...

Same problem when washing the car with keys in your pocket..AS it's happend to many in the rain, hopefully no one's roof and windows will open while the snow is falling, although maybe the snow is easier to get rid of then all the water.

I hope those with problems are reporting them to their service departments? :-)

I've had mine out in the snow and haven't had that problem. I do have the locking and unlocking when washing my car. I don't leave the key in my pocket when washing off my car anymore.
