Grr... Battery flat
Today had charged battery overnight with my CTEK 7000 battery charger, drove car out onto drive, turned it off and put on the auxiliary heater to warm it up. 20 minutes later came out and battery wouldnt start engine. have now disconnected battery to give a recon charge with the CTEK. if this doesnt work.... Would changing battery help, have a 90Ah battery (BMW) fitted. Looked on internet at 95Ah AGM battery £140. This would be easier/cheaper than going to dealer for tests/ new battery etc even though still under warranty. Would fitting your own battery affect warranty? Anyone else fitted a new/ better battery duncan UK. X5 E70 3.0D |

1. "Fitting" as in "if I do the installation myself"? No, that will not affect warranty UNLESS you do it wrong . (Almost impossible) ![]() 2. IF it is NOT A BMW RECOMMENDED FITMENT, then YES, they would use that as an excuse- "Sir we cannot rule out that non-recommended battery, so you need to go back to BMW's recommended configuration". FWIW I replaced the battery in my 2001 X5 with a 3rd party battery at roughly 50k miles. About a year later when I took it in for a repair to an electrical problem ( the left fog light was not working) the BMW Dealer required me to replace the 3rd party battery with a BMW approved battery before they would repair the fog light under extended warranty. I argued that this was silly but lost anyway

well rang dealer, stated that new battery would need to be programmed into car, (cant see why), and they would prefer car in for tests in 3 weeks time.
Since then today, charged battery overnight, started car, drove to work - sidelights only (3 miles), had to restart and move car 300 yards. Came out after 4 hours and flat battery!. jump started fine. It must be the battery, a 90 amph battery cant flatten from fully charged in 4 hours without filling the car with smoke!. Nothing seems to be running well cant have this for 3 weeks so going to buy a decent battery and fit it, will put the old one in prior to visit to dealer. It is so so embarrasing having an "executive" car that wont start
