6,800 Miles on '09 35d Report

The vehicle is on it's third moonroof cassette; DVD Navi keeps asking to insert the DVD; the horn sounds like a lady blowing her nose (new horn on order); and now the power liftgate won't power lift up. Have an appt. tomorrow to check the DVD. Sales manager says his new X5 did the same thing and he had the DVD unit changed out. Works fine now.

First oil change done. I like the vehicle telling me when to change the oil and I received a phone call to make an appt.

Wish I could get XM instead of Sirius. Already have 3 XM radio's working, don't want another service.

Power, power, power. Love that turbo diesel music . Avg about 23 mpg around town if I keep my foot out of it. 21 mpg if I occasionally hammer it.

Seen my first 35d other than my own in Valencia today along with a mix of 10 other BMW's (X5 4.8, X6, 3 and 5's). Must have been a distributor or dealer having breakfast at the hotel.

you sound pretty upbeat after having all those problems. Glad you like it... jealous of that gas mileage... 3.0 only getting 16mpg (70% city).

I had been disappointed with my 21-22mpg in the X5d during the first 1000 mile break-in.

I've got 1,400 miles on mine and the MPG ranges from 26-28 with 80/20 Highway/Urban driving. I have noticed that the MPG really drops while the engine is below operating temperature, so cold ambient temperatures and short trips will likely drop the MPG significantly.

What was/is the problem with the roof?

Three different units sounds excessive - like maybe they haven't found the real problem yet are replacing the roof because they don't know what else to do?

Moonroof

On delivery, one side of the wind deflector would not come up. I pointed this out to the salesperson. We both tried to get it to deploy and eventually a little plastic piece broke. This was on a Sunday. We brought it back the next Friday when they had the replacement wind deflector.

During the check after install, the mechanic was not satisfied that it would not happen again. BMW authorized replacing the whole cassette (minus the glass). Waited another week and had it replaced.

3-4 weeks later driving down the freeway, I tried to close the moonroof and it kept cycling back open after closing about 2 inches. I finally got it to close, but during that, something snapped and the rubber channel come off inside and was hanging down.

Took it in, another day in shop to get BMW authorization. Wait a week, then 1.5 days to replace. No problems since.

Update. Dealer has kept our baby over the weekend because BMW could not get off their A** to get back to the dealer with authorization to replace the DVD unit. At least we have an '09 328i for a loaner. Quite fun to drive. Looked at these in '06, but the Acura TL was in our budget at the time.

They are concentrating on a unit in the back re: liftgate issue. Probably have to wait another week for BMW to get off their _ _ _ to authorize.
