Water in the rear fog lamp

I've just notice some water and mist inside my rear fog lamp. Since it's time for an oil service, I took the car in and inform them about this problem. Guess what? The dealer replace a new rear fog lamp for me, but the problem does not stop there.

When I pick up my car at the dealer, there are more water and mist inside my rear fog lamp. Is it because of car wash at dealer before I pick it up? (Dealer free wash) If so, how could that be possible when it's a brand new tail fog lamp??

Has anyone here experience the same problem?

hi there , yes - do a search a you find my previous thread with pics of water in both rear fog lights.

The dealer replaced both under motorplan. But I know where the fault lies with your lights and it starts with the dealer.

When they replace the rear fog lights in the tail gate, they need to silicone all around the rear fog light as it only clips in from the side ( onto the taligate) , and inside there is only one small clip and screw that pulls the light unit "into" the bodywork.

The silicone part is crucial the dealer told me to ensure that it is watertight.
They have experienced this alot times, as the believe the unit is not completely waterproof and will leak if continous exposed to water. They had a special type of silicone it seems, that become "foam" like after it sets. That just ensures total waterproofing.

No problem since

Hope this helps

Great - I had this on both sides, the left unit was replaced 3 times and right once, and it remained leakiy on the left side until the car was sold. Dealership mentioned that there was a flaw in the design housing / or the trunk panel itself - but I haven't heard of the need for silicone.

Cheers,

Thanks so much RSA 12 and The Big Easy. Your information was really helpful. It took exactly 2 years for this problem to show on my car. I will let my dealer know when they replace both of my tail fog lights this time. I do agreed about the designed flaw.

I just want to get rid of this problem before my warranty ranout. Don't really want to pay to replace these lights all the time.

Thanks again
