New X35d pics and info
We took delivery on 12/23, right before our Christmas trip to Tahoe, so now I am finally getting to posting some pics and thoughts on the first 2 weeks. X5 did great on the trip, used less than one tank of gas from San Jose to Tahoe and back, plus a few days of driving around town, about 24MPG average on a new engine, love it. One regret is not getting the comfort seats, so anyone about to put in an order I'd recommend you get the comfort seats. Standards seats aren't bad, but the comfort seats are just better. Which brings me to why I know comfort seats are better, X5 35d is already in the shop for check engine light and the dealer gave me a 528i loaner with comfort seats. Check engine light is due to an oxygen knock sensor, and they won't have the replacment parts until Monday. Doesn't sound like a huge deal, but what worries me is that they had to get a local BMW engineer to come and look at it to pin point the problem. According to my SA he also requested that they run some additional tests on the oxygen sensor before replacing it. He probably just wanted additional data points for his FA report, still kind of strange. Anyone else had something like this happen?

Yeppers, a little worrisome 4 a shop to call another shop then have someone come over. Oh well, perhaps it is a worry for nothing. Nice looking vehicle, wish you all the luck in 2010.

Congratulations on the diesel. I haven't had that problem, but have had a couple other issues. Let us know what they find...
Good luck, Craig |

great color combo - same as mine except I got the brushed aluminum trim. Watch the drivers side area by the seat-belt. After 6months mine is all banged up from when I take the belt off, it hits perfectly on that pillar and looks horrible on the tobacco.

I've noticed the same thing on my 330i with beige interior, although on light colored plastic it isn't as noticeable.

As we have diesels, the knock or "ping" sensor really doesn't apply, and is in fact, is how these engines run, i.e. knock on purpose. I looked at parts diagrams and ping sensor easy to find on gas engines (off block) but didn't expect and didn't see one on the diesel engine. I'm guessing here, but I think the NOX sensor functions in much the same way as the O2 sensor on the gas engine. The O2 sensor looks like it was called Lambda sensor on the parts diagram and was located on the exhaust manifold. If others know, please correct me, unless the engine was seriously overheated, I don't know if the diesel engine could have a knocking problem, and thus, no knock sensor. |

congrats! The roof rail cross bars look great. I looked at the BMW ski holder but it was too bulky. Would you mind telling us where you got it?

I got these at REI, they are made by Yakima. You'll need to buy the posts and the bars.

I got the X5 back today. It turns out it was the NOX sensor. Apparently, the computer gave the dealer some weird codes they didn't understand which is why they had to call in a local BMWNA rep. I guess BMWNA rep has tools with additional codes. Anyways, everything looks fine, hopefully there won't be any more problems.
