There is a BMW service bulletin on this (according to my new dealer) and they finally got the new DVD drive in with updated part # and installed. Problem appears fixed. Originally the part was backordered and took several weeks to get.

I had this and found that creating a new copy of the DVD (onto a DVD-R) helped greatly. Since moving onto this I have never had the problem.

can totaly confirm that, the problem is that I'm now at like 10x copy of DVD-R disc and still nav works only about 10 minutes.
Perhaps any ideas which way to burn and what disc brand to use?
I've tried several of the big names, using Nero, slowest speed as well as highest burning speed, different computers, but lately I can't get the nav working more than couple of minutes.

Yes there is an SIB for it and I posted it. Do a search. What is happening is you are getting read errors due to hardening of the anti-vibration gel on the read head. It will only get worse. Get it replaced under warranty ASAP.

Update: See post # 30 here:

I was wondering if there is any follow-up to this issue?
My Nav unit is getting clearly and progressively worse - basicaly it is always maximum 10 minutes after each start and the dvd reader stops reading the disc. I have to take the disc in and out few times before it gets to work again....yet only for about 10 mins again... so basicaly nav is useles.
The best would be if there is some SIB for this? Preferably for German market )
