How easy and often do people spend $2k on repairs on these things - I know some parts are really expensive but what are the chances of those specifically going bad rather than lesser parts? Honest question.

I guess I'll wait till near the end of the 4 years and see what sort of things go wrong.

Other thing - anyone know how much the annual maintenance costs out of pocket after the 4 years?

BMWNA extended warranty options:
6 yrs. 100k miles (from in-service date). I think I saw a 7-year/100k option in there, actually, but I could be wrong.

BMWNA Extended maintenance options:
6 yrs. 100k miles (from in-service date). Again, I may have seen a 7-year/100k option.

I have the printout with the prices at home. I'll scan it Tuesday and post it here.

You could spend $2k on an X5 repair at the drop of a dime. I don't even want to think what the factory/dealer would charge for a replacement Navigation Screen or a faulty adaptive drive control module or shock position sensor. Each one of those parts is likely over $1k alone.

Electronics are not cheap, nor is installation. Given, that it's a tax deduction for many of us, it's well worth the cost.

On the other hand, repair costs are also tax deductions so they too may be beneficial, in a strange sort of way.

It's risk vs. reward, but with the frequency at which German Electronics seem to deteriorate, I'll be buying the warranty. I'll probably not keep my X5 beyond 6-years. I may have it over 100k miles, but, I'll cross that bridge when and if I come to it.

Short response: $2k can be spent on one seemingly minor repair, when you take it into the dealer. A fuel pump, a bad seat actuator, a bad sunroof motor, all of these things will cost a fortune to repair, when you factor in the labor.
