No. It houses the ECU. It has a fan to moderate the temperature because it's in the engine compartment. The fan comes on whenever the HVAC fan is on and draws air from inside the cabin.

I had it in the dealer recently for some other things and I had them try to find the hum, but they couldn't of course. After I picked it up I tried to replicate it in the parking lot, but I couldn't get it to do it. It seems to happen more often after the engine is fully warmed up.

Thumbs up ***Update***

Just an update for this thread,
As stated in earlier posts, the faint hum comming from the climate control that drove me nuts for a while was the secondary pump.
Dealer replaced it at no cost, even though my car was out of warranty.

Ditto here. MY '10 35d. Faint hum - constant pitch and loudness when you turn on the fan. dealer replaced aux water pump. Problem fixed. Work order states:
1 64-11-9-197-085 ADDITIONAL WATER PUMP: 641030
