Did you inquire about extended warranty coverage as well and received an "all-in" price for the multiple warranty coverages?
True, the roads in your area look like they've been shelled by the enemy; not so bad here in NC.

To be fair, their plan (and yeah, I think it was THEIR plan) basically covered ANY tire/wheel or ANY cosmetic items (dings, etc.) so it wasn't BAD, it was just criminally expensive.

They did not offer me any discounts (oh yes - I tried) on any warranties. I took the extended warranty to 6 years / 100K miles (which was something to the tune of $4500) but not the extended maintenance plan. I'll probably be going to some highly recommended indie shops after 50K. No "all in" discount was ever mentioned.

Even if that happened, I don't understand why they wouldn't repair the RFTs per the manufacturer's instructions.

They do not repair Run Flats it's as simple as that.

When I bought my tire warranty I also got the extended maintenance--they (Beverly Hills BMW) discounted both when purchased together.

They could in many cases if they wanted to, but let's agree that in this situation they will just replace them.

What isn't simple is understanding how you know you are going to get four flats so as to get your four new tires.

JCL I'm not sure what you are trying to dig out of me. But yes people can get 4 flat tires it happens. Will it happen to me, I sure hope not but knowing that I'm covered let's me sleep at night. Instead of grilling me why don't you simply call East Bay yourself and ask any SA on the details regarding the coverage. BTW they also offer their own in house extended warranty program that you can fixate til your hearts desire.

Thank you, you have corrected your statement that you figure you will get four new tires mounted and balanced for $599. As you point out, that is true only if in fact you get four flat tires. You may get nothing, except for the peace of mind. That's fair.

Tire and wheel insurance, on average, is a losing game for buyers. The dealers and insurers all sell it at a profit, usually with multiple levels of profit between the policy issuer and the selling agent. A small number of buyers will come out ahead, essentially winning the flat tire lottery, but most will lose, and on average, everbody loses. What all those buyers get for their cash outlay though is a certain peace of mind, some certainty over what their tire costs will be. That is totally fair, and if people can't afford the uncertainty of the cash outlay for a replacement tire, or any surprise cost, then insurance makes sense. The cheapest course of action will be to be self-insured, as long as one can handle any surprise costs (in this case, the cost of a flat tire).

What was illogical was the idea that someone was selling four run flat tires, mounted and balanced, for $599, including their profit margin.

Well I too was confused by that... all I could figure was that you were saying that they would at the very least replace your 4 tires if they wore out in the three year term.

heres the hidden deal with these dealer warranties- they will tell you "BMW won't let us replace just one tire, so the warranty covers the damaged one buy you pay for the other one" at a price that is 2x any other tire store.

I had a problem with this proposition from the start. Yes you get a brand new tire but you also throw away a perfectly good tire (well in most cases.) If you have the insurance, I guess you don't care but for those who don't, take a moment and read your tire warranty to see what the manufacturer says about repairing RFTs. You may even get repairs for free. I have had a repair on an RTF for about 7000 miles. Michelin authorized and paid for the repair as well as mount and balance.

I'm thinking about keeping RFT's on mine when it comes time to get new tires as they seem to attract nails and screws more than non-RFT's. Since I have the warranty I would rather have a new tire than just them patching a non-RFT. I know RFTs ride rougher but it seems I would get more new tires that way ha. I have had 3 tire replacements on my warranty and I've had the car for 15 days.

similar position here..i've had the car for less than 6months and already got a puncture..the cost of a 20" RFT is already just as much as we paid for the insurance so its already paid for itself!
