What TOYS can be added to the E70 X5?

Hi everyone,
New to the forum, but just wanted to see who had fitted what to their E70 X5, and what can be added to the new Idrive system?
I just traded in my E53 X5 for the new model, but cant seem to find much on the net regarding adding extras to the sat-nav/idrive system???

On my E53, I had the navigation & TV function, but I also added:
a reverse camera,
a dvd player which played on the nav screen,
TV in motion,
Intravee II for Ipod control
Rear headrest dvd system with seperate dvd player
upgraded firmware for nav, incl. 3D maps, custom splash screen, and voice camera alerts.

My new car has the profecional nav system (media pack), but does not have the TV function or reverse camera. It does have the USB port, but i'd like to get the new motor up to the same sort of spec as my OLD one.

Can anyone shed some advice regarding fitting an aftermarket reverse cam, TV module, DVD player etc. Also, is there a better option for Ipod/Iphone than the USB port in the glove box?

Hopefully someone will be able to help... any suggestions or own custom upgrades would be great... please add pics if possible.

Cheers
Mike

IMO,
1. the DVD changer is a FAR better option than the iPod option. I have hundreds of tracks that I've recorded onto the six DVDs. I never use my iPod or my iPhone to play music.
2. look at Invision for head-rest DVD options. They posted recently with some good prices.
3. there are recent threads on installing a "backup camera". You can search for that string.
4. don't bother with the iPhone 3G adapter (if you're thinking of adding that). I added that and it cost way too much, was way too much trouble, and I never use it.

When I can afford it, I will be contacting you. I've been admiring those INViSiON players for a while now...

I have the factory holder in the centre arm rest and I love it. Just clip my iphone in and I have all my music, play lists, phone book etc via the iDrive, it's charging, using the outside antenna and dosent fly round the car :-)

Oh, that's a good point. If you're talking about the 2010 model (and not the 2008 model that I have), then the Smartphone adapter (or whatever it's called) may be a good option. Installing it after purchase may not be an option though...

Hello mate,

Just wondered if you could give me a little more info on the factory holder, and what functions you can control with the Idrive?
I thought that they were just for using the phone function... didn't realise that you could control the Ipod music. Can you also use it to watch movies etc?
How much do these cost, and is it for the Iphone 3Gs?

Cheers
Mike

I get full phone control via bluetooth and then the cradle adds full 'ipod' control. I see the ipod as a device and can select artists, albums, songs, play-lists etc etc and also search. There is a random option too. I don't remember seeing movies on the menu, I'll check this afternoon.

Outside antenna connection is inductive and works well as does charging.

The cradle I have is for the 3g and the 3gs.

This was all factory fitted. the options i speced were:

Bluetooth phone prep + telemat (part of the Media pack)
USB interface £200
Bluetooth telephone audio connection £70
Bluetooth snap in adaptor Z0ZDS £59.95

Hope that helps!
