Exclamation Squeaky Brakes? BMW say it is all normal.

Hi all, I recently booked an appointment for our 09 X5 35d, and one of the complaints were the squeaky brakes. This normally occurs when backing out of the garage or slowly approaching a red light or stop sign.

My BMW SA advised me that they do nothing about it and send me the PDF I attached to this thread. It is dated April 2008, so it seems that not much has changed regarding squeaky brakes.

Interesting.

My 09 X5d had squealing brakes, usually when coming to a slow stop. I brought it in at 7k mi, and they said they took it all apart. They cleaned and "lubed" the parts. It seems to have solved the problem, at least for now....It has 12k mi now, so I will see if it starts squealing again in the next couple thousand miles.....Even if it does, no biggie since the function/stopping power is not compromised.

Otherwise, still love the car and have had no major problems with it. Nice 65 degree sunny weather in the Bay area this week, so gave car a wash and wax, and enjoying some windows down and sunroof open driving...Love to hear the diesel chugging along and the turbos spooling up as I step on the gas.....

Apparently there are 4 other X5d's I've seen cruising around in my town (small 30k population). A black one, a white one, a blue one, a silver one, and my space grey....

Guess the "fix" and/or the "new materials" search hasn't been
accomplished in the past couple years...

Fwiw, my brakes have seldom squeaked in 8 1/2 yrs/ 76,000 miles.
But, I hope they get it done for you.

"The continuous testing of new materials is ongoing and

that fulfill our rigid criteria for optimum safety and performance.

My brakes have been pretty loud on and off. A firm stop does help reduce the squeaking. I've chalked it up to a tough winter here with lots of salt and moisture. Hoping they get better when it warms up.

Our diesel has been into the dealership numerous times for squeaky brakes. They would clean the rotors, place anti-squeal on the pads and it would squeak again within a few weeks. Funny thing is that when we test drove a X6 yesterday, the first thing we heard were squealing brakes... a great selling point!

I have the same problem with my 2010 X5d - 1005 miles on the OM. According to the dealer, it is normal and it will go away.

It gets a little better after I get the car washed, but it has been especially bad this winter. I've got about 15K miles.

If it makes anyone feel better, my wife's Mazda 3 brakes are pretty loud this winter also.

had it early on, a few hard stops and it hasn't returned for thousands of miles.

How to Fix Squeaky Brakes - Silence Noisy Brake Pads - Popular Mechanics

I haven't had any squealing problems in my first 6,000 miles with my 35d, but on other vehicles, I have found that when my brakes got "squeally," a few aggressive stops, in a safe area, typically stopped them from squealing for at least a few hundred miles.
