Fits the X6 SMG Steering wheel into an X5 E70?

Hi Folks,

hoe my awful english ist good enough for this forum (mistakes included), but I've got an import question.

Does an X6 SMG (inkluding the paddles) Steering wheel fits into an nomal X5 E70? If the paddles work or not it's not important for me.

At the moment I've got the ugly standard wheel (but heated) and can get the sportwheel (also heated) from an x6. So I had to know if the main connections are the same. (of course I also need the new airbag but this would be included).

Hope for help.

Greetings from germany
Peer

The steering wheel from the X6 will fit the X5. I have tried it! However the paddle shifts will not work...unless you know someone who can reprogram the module for you.

A few months ago my SA had me drive an X6 M just for the heck it of after I finalized my X5 order. During the drive he proudly pointed-out the two spots on the X6 M steering wheel that were for thumb rests. I didn't have the heart to tell him my 2005 Ford Focus steering wheel also had similar thumb rests...

yeah.. it's nice and sporty but some other "non sporty" IMO vehicles have them too. like our family's 2001 Chevrolet Venture mini van

Keeping aesthetics aside, what is the advantage of using a X6M steering wheel with X5?
