Which X5?
So I went and look at this one today by the Airport. The dealershp is super fancy. Fully loaded with Ferraris and Porsches. http://www.autotrader.ca/a/BMW/X5/WO...howcpo=ShowCPO The truck is fully loaded with EVERYTHING, the only downfall is that it has 85,000km, which means the warranty & maintenance is no good. The body looks clean, underneath looks good, and it's a Canadian car. The dealer didn't really want to deal with me too much since the X5 is only a lowly vehicle compared to the rest of their show room. Quoted from the ad Quote:
http://www.autotrader.ca/a/BMW/X5/NE...howcpo=ShowCPO BMW warranty & maintenance is definitely worth something, but the extra options are nice too! Last edited by macming; 09-20-2012 at 07:17 PM. |

if you are handy with some tools then your options are:
get the one with low miles and if needed, do retrofits later or get one with more options and hope that nothing serious will break, like an engine or something... eventually the warranty will run out on you (unless you sell it before) but the options will stay with you for the entire duration of ownership... if take the last 7 digits if VIN and plug into bmwvin.com, you can check out the factory options on both cars and compare them

Do we trust that FB link?
Not looking until one of the Net Mavens tells me it's OK... Terminator: funny remark...the OP is thinking of ditching his Nissan and you suggest, " if you are handy with some tools...", and "get one with more options and hope that nothing serious will break, like an engine or something..." For a neophyte to used Xs, it may/should give the OP some pause. ![]() ![]() Jes'saying... GL, mD

I own a E46 M3 and I've done all the mods/maintenance on it so far. I don't find it too challenging to work on BMWs. Retro fitting certain mods is just a PITA, such as the rear window sun shield that comes with the executive package.
In terms of drive train, I believe most BMWs are pretty solid. The only scary thing is any electrical gremlins. Hence I'm hoping owners would chime in here. The car with all the options, it definitely needs brake rotors and pads replaced as there is a very obvious lip on all four rotors. This probably shows that the 85,000 kms weren't all highway milage. The plus side is that the engine bay and everything else look really clean. I haven't had a chance to see the lower milage one yet. Perhaps my best decision is to wait for a bit and research a bit more. There aren't that many used X5s for sale in Canada, and obviously I'm a bit picky about the color/option combo ![]() Quote:

![]() I've had a E46 M3 for about 4 years, so even though I'm new to X5 diesels, but thankfully not new to BMWs. The M3 was bought without a warranty, and it has been generally reliable. *knock on wood. |

The 1st X5 says it has 20" wheels. The ones in the picture are not 20" wheels.
You can do better if you look in the USA. I just brought one back and it was a very easy process once you find the one you want and have done your research. I got one with a lot of options, kms will add up as you dive it but the options do not change. Rob. |

Don't see adaptive drive on the "fully loaded one" .... Move on.
That rear entertainment system is junk. Don't waste your money. |

You want AD, some of the other options you can do without!

Thanks for you comments. To import a X5 into Canada, do we just need a letter of admissibility from BMW and pay the riv fee? Did you have to get the car programmed for drl and the extras? How did you get it home? Were you able to get a temp permit? Is any existing warranty good in Canada? What about the maintenance package? Thanks!
