I just purchased a 2010 X5 but may have to sell it now!:(
Does anyone have any ideas how much I should list the car for and what my options are in regards to selling it? By the way, I absolutely love the car. But, it doesn't make financial sense to keep it if money gets tight.

I think the 'value' should be $5-7k under 'cost'...cost being 'invoice minus $any incentives'
List it for whatever... you are competing with 2011 cars, some with incentives, and dealership financing.... A Last edited by ard; 03-14-2010 at 07:53 PM. Reason: To make it on point |

Sorry to hear that, times are very tough in CA and only going to get worse. I hope you find a new job soon. Good luck with selling you X5.

My local dealer is selling a 3.0 for $48k with 3k miles. Car is 5 months old and original MSRP was $62k. This should give you an idea.

In January, the BLS said, California led all states in employment growth with 32,000 net new jobs. Illinois and New York state followed with respective net gains of 26,000 and 25,500, and the state of Washington followed with 18,900. Eighteen states saw employment decrease, and one state saw no change.

Sorry to hear about the possibility of your pending job loss. My best advice is to not eat through your savings, while trying to hold onto the vehicle. Contact BMWNA, or whichever lender you used, and inform the company of what's going on. You may find an empathetic ear on the other end of the phone or they may have a program to assist you in this potentially pending situation.
Price the vehicle correctly and you'll sell it quickly, probably within one or two-weeks. If you don't receive ample responses, it's likely you've priced it too high. The vehicle is in demand, but pricing it correctly is crucial to a quick sale. If you can, try to advertise it in high end markets via Craigslist, such as Los Angeles, San Francisco, and San Diego, etc., where you'll find a plethora of individuals who are looking for, and can afford, a luxury SAV. |

Thanks for the advice everyone. I only owe about $16k on the car. And, I still have my previous car, which I haven't sold yet. I could probably get about $23k-24k for my old car. So technically, I can sell my old car, pay off the balance on the X5, and still keep it. However, if I'm jobless for some time, it wouldn't make sense to keep $60k car....you know what I mean?
