Fog Lights?

I don't know if this is just me, or if this is something that my 07 X5 does automatically. Sometimes one of the fog lights comes on, on it's own, when I push the button to activate them, the other one comes on. It's usually the passenger side that comes on, on it's own, but I'm pretty sure the drivers side has done it to. Any ideas?

P.S I recently upgraded my H11 bulbs in the fog lights to PIAA's 4000k option. But I'm pretty sure this has come up in the past also.

Your foglights serve double function as the cornering lights.

When you indicate left/right at speeds below 50km/h or turn the steering wheel sharply (I think), the foglight on that side will illuminate. Turning on the foglights will likely disable the function, hence both of the foglights come on.

It's when you turn the wheel past a certain point.

I am a little confused about this. I notice the passanger fog light on
as well and asummed there was a problem with the driver's side light.
Is it possible to disable this feature, and how exactly does this work
if it can't be disabled?

My x does this all the time. I always drive around with the fogs on bcuz if I have them off, one stays on! I have spotted numerous other e70s on the road doing the same thing. And I am not talking mid turn or something. O well I can deal.

I believe the Cornering Lights can be disabled if you leave the headlight switch all the way to the right, in the manual ON position. You also lose the adaptive headlight.

What's not to like about the function? Y'all don't like being able to check for pedestrians, cyclists, puddles of water, or potholes when turning at an intersection?

No, it's just annoying to get comments from people telling me I have a light burned out. You are right about it being a great safety feature when in motion, but when one stays on when stopped is the frustrating thing.

The problem with driving around with fog lights on in the daytime is it makes drivers look like dweebs. I followed a car on the highway for 45 minutes a few days back with the fog lights on in bright daylight, and to make it worse she had her single rear fog light on as well (late model Volvo).

Lots of cars have had cornering lights for years; BMW just uses the fog light for that purpose. It isn't on when you are driving straight, and you need to turn sharply enough to activate it, so it is really in play only at low speeds. As AzNM says, what is not to like about it?

Folks do that for you? Wow, if I'm afraid to do that because I don't want strangers to think I'm some c*ck. Otherwise I'd be practically telling folks everyday that either 1) It's dark out and you forgot your headlights, 2) Your door is ajar, 3) You have multiple brake lights out and should get it fixed ASAP, or 4) Your full beams are on, dip them so you don't blind everyone else.

To me it seems a useless gimmick. Somehow I've managed to get
buy for 30 years with headlight. I generally don't turn onto ground I've not already looked at as I drive up to said intersection.
