Cloudy Headlights

I have a 2007 X5. The headlight housings are starting to look a little cloudy. Is their anything I can do to restore them? I looked on the "Detail" area of the site, but couldn't find anything relevant. Thanks in advance.

It actually an easy process.

Start wet sanding with 1000 grid. Then move up to 1500 grid. I went to 3000 grid. I used 3M wet paper.

Folllow this by a good polish / cleaner like Megs Plastic X. I used my DA polisher - but I could take a whiledoing it by hand. I applied Plast X quite a few times to get the desired results.

Interesting. I am no expert, but it looks like the cloudy and hazyness is not on the outside of the headlight housing, but rather on the inside.

If it is on the inside, you need to talk to your dealer about warranty action.

I have a appointment next week for some other issues. I'll bring up the headlight issue as well. I am guessing that moisture got in there. Let's see what kind of BS the dealer is going to try and give me as to why this is not a warranty issue. LOL

Moisture in the headlight housing was an issue with early build e70's. I had mine replaced under warranty due to cracking. However, under the warranty claim they put distortion/moisture in headlight housing, not because of cracking. My vehicle is in the shop now because of the rear view camera malfunction, high battery discharge, replacement of door handles and the headlight is cracking again. Headlight SIB 630408 for moisture.

Hey Denalio,
Let us know what the correction was for high battery drain. I sold mine but was thinking of picking up another one but with all these issues, makes me think twice.

I thought that my headlamps were cloudy in the inside at first, but turns out it was the outside. Check out my post in the Detail forum to see the before and after pics from my 3M repair kit repair.
