PDC sensors & Bike rack

On a 2010 X5 does anyone know how to mute the rear PDC sensors?

I have a Thule hitch mounted bike rack and the rear sensor constantly beep. I know you can turn down the volume in the IDrive, but the warning sound with the rack installed is still quite loud.

I suspect the same think happens when towing a trailer. Does the IDrive disable the rear sensors when the electronics are connected for a trailer hitch

thanks

First question is whether you have the OEM hitch and wiring harness. If so, connecting trailer lights disables the rear PDC. Some newer vehicles reportedly have had to be recoded for that to work.

If you connected the round-to-4-pin plug that BMW provides, and put a dummy load on the connectors, it should work to tell the vehicle that a trailer is connected. Another poster played around with that, but reported that he still had error codes. Worth a try if you have the OEM wiring. I will look for the link.

Edit: the poster was APW2607. Here is one thread on the subject. Be sure to read the entire thread. http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...-rear-off.html

Here is a follow-up post on the same subject: http://www.xoutpost.com/722778-post45.html

Thanks for the quick response.

I do have an OEM hitch mount and wirning harness. I will read the links you posted and give it a try.

Reading through the second post. http://www.xoutpost.com/722778-post45.html

Do you why the tow hitch electrical system still throws out errors that are logged by the car? Will this cause long term issues?
