My understanding is that 2011 35d continues with the 6-speed. Only the 50i and the 35i get the eight-speed. Here in Australia the 35d is being replaced by the 40d which also has the eight-speeder.

Argh, really want that 40d (in USA). Wonder if/when it will arrive.

Drove a new 50i (see fraser Im teachable) 340 miles highway...averaged around 80MPH....computer showed 17 MPG at the end....I think the gearbox helps a little.....These were the first miles on this car so Im guessing it may improve a little...for me the pure joy of the new engine outweighs the fuel cost (im coming out of a 2007 x-5 3.0)...but then I'm in the US and fuel and cars are way cheaper here...

Well, there's some talk that the USA will skip the 40d altogether and move onto the 45d (tri-turbo) but I'm not really sure ... more interested in what's happening here.

17mpg sounds excellent.

I hear that fuel is so cheap in the USA that they give you a free tankful when you buy your morning newspaper...
