BMW Shipping from SC to NJ/NYC Area

My car was releaed to the carrier on 4/29. It is now 5/6. When is a reasonable time to expect delivery?

My CA doesn't seem to know...nobody seems to know where the car is. BMW factory said their responsibility stops when they release it to the carrier.

The trucking company makes the schedule once it has the car. Same for the trains.

Here's an idea (for next time) schedule a Performance Center delivery and find someone to 'pick it up' for you. Have them throw a GPS tracker in the car and load it onto a Reliable Carriers (http://www.reliable-carriers.com/truck). Then you could see exactly where it is, and when the truck driver stopped in the Kitty Kat lounge for a few hours of REST.

kidding. I'm sure it will turn up soon!

Sit tight. The last days are the most agonizing. It's only a week today. It should be here anyday.

So here is the screen shot of what BMW dealerships (ie YOUR CA) can see when they pull up your order.

http://www.xoutpost.com/737543-post124.html

The website is 'dealerspeed.net'

Ask your CA to send you a screenshot of the status....

It's marked as released to carrier on 4/29...that's it. Not VPC, from SC.

CA said that the "port" said that it would probably come in on Saturday...which means I can't pick it up until the following Saturday (due to work)...major bummer.

I live in Charlotte, which is 90 miles from the Factory. I am also waiting on my 50i and it was released to carrier on the 30th. With the old transportation company, you could expect same day or next day from the released date in the Southeast. 6 days later, we have no idea what to expect. I'll let you know once my 50i arrives and you can figure from there.

My point- if you looked at the link- is that there should be VERY specific information available to the CA.

Are you asking about a car that is being shipped from Germany?

If it is an X5, it is built in spartanburg SC, then transferred to the Vehicle Processing Center in Spartanburg. Then from their either put on a train to the west coast, or released to a common carrier for the trip to the dealer. There is no "port" involved.

I think this is one of those situations where giving the customer too much information is bad. They should just list the date it's started and when it's done and "it'll be there in a week or two - your CA will call you". The tracking isn't accurate anyway - if you're using it to plan ahead - be ready for a surprise. I tracked the thing almost daily via phone call to the rep at the 800# and at one point NOBODY knew where it was for a few days... it just showed up at the dealer. Looking back at it - what was really the point for me the customer knowing all the in-between stuff...? Just a big tease... I got it when I got it. BMW would probably save themself and their customers a lot of heartache and worry if they would keep it basic. Last year I helped my mom buy her MB and since it's built overseas we were told when it was built and when it was on the ship... next thing we heard - a week or two later, it's ready at the dealer... simple and to the point.

With my current 335i I had not issue, I knew where it was and I knew when it was on the ship. My deal is my X5 is coming from SC so it shouldn't take 10+ days from being released from VPC in SC.

Do X5s not go to some regional VPC before going to the dealer? If they go straight from SC to the dealer (I am buying in NJ) then there is no way it should take so long. I just keep getting different stories and it annoys me.

If I wasn't in the position where as of Monday I will have no car, I wouldn't care too much!
