Front brake pad service light

Does anyone know how to reset the front brake pad service indicator light on the '08 X5?

Not sure if an '08 is different than previous models, but those had a simple make/brake contact that alerted the driver to worn pads. If the warning light went on, you needed to replace the one-time sensor. Once the sensor was replaced, the light went out automatically in a few minutes, no reset necessary.

JCL is correct, you need to replace the pads and the sensor. There is no other reset possible.

Only the iDrive service interval warning light is on. The pads seems ok to me when I was changing over to summer tires three weeks ago. I have tried to reset the interval by using the same approch as the oil change but the interval changed from -350km to -19000km now.

Service indicator lights are easily reset by pressing and holding the odometer reset button as you push the start button with the key in the ignition and your foot off of the brake so the car doesn't actually start. Search the board or the net for service indicator reset BMW X5. I just did this recently after my dealer "forgot" to reset my service warning light. If you can't find it I'll post the exact procedure later.

I have done that. I can reset the oil change interval and everything else except the front brake service light; it was in -ve 350 when I was trying to reset it. Once I was at the Reset? display, I released & pressed the button and the displayed km went blank while I was holding it, then the km pops up -ve 19000km. I have repeated the process few more times and made no difference.

You are almost there... once you get to the part that shows the -350 by going through the cluster button as above described you switch over to the BC button on the left stalk to hold/release/hold for the reset.

I just try again and it still not working at all. I have tried both buttons and neither one allowed me to reset the interval to a +ve km, it kept going back to the -ve km reading. Already scheduled to have the front pads service in 10 day, will let the dealer handle it. I know the pads still have at least 30% life left.
Thank you very much for the inputs.

Oh, you didn't do the job yet? That explains it! It won't reset untill the sensor has been replaced, and resetting it is part of the job at the dealer. Now I don't know why you were trying to reset this in the first place...
