[QUOTE=faz;747719I don't think I will ever buy another BMW with navigation in it. But that is probably just me.[/QUOTE]

Nope, it's not just you. I agree that the BMW Navigation was the worst thing I have bought in years. It's performance is so poor, it is almost fraud for BMW to sell it at their current price.

Get the Tech package - you will get NAVI + Real Time Traffic + Google Maps Send To Car + Rear View Camera + Top View Camera (helps a lot with parallel parking) + Parking Sensors... IMHO it is worth the price tag!

Ordered my 35i premium last month. Supposed to be here around 6/15.
This is the problem with too many CA's. It's not that MACO and training aren't legitimate charges; it's just that they are not disclosed upfront but are a surprise at the end. It amounts to bait and switch.

There are a lot of little charges that dealers like to try and throw in at the last minute. I mean, you've been at the dealership for a while and they put a stck of papers to sign in front of you. Who is going to carefully read each one? I did when I bought my first Viper. I put $50K down in cash and financed $25K. At the end of the stack of papers, the priced jumped $1500. I asked what it was and they honestly answered "LOAN INSURANCE" !

I think the base models are great. I find the faux leather more comfortable than the real stuff. I can tint my own wondows exactly how I want them. Less stuff to go wrong (especially if I decide to keep past waranty) and a Garmin works fine. I wish there was an easy way to display the Garmin nav on the screen...

I agree with everyone, 07-10 NAVI is a joke. My daily commuter is an 04 Honda Accord and that has a 10X better navigation. Damn, you need a navigator to navigate the navigation system, a pure rip off. I do think the backup sensors and camera are a necessity, even though the quality of the BMW rear view camera is atrociously bad in the night. I can't believe BMW even put that quality stuff in there and charge a ridiculous pile of money for the same. I recently drove the new 5 series with navigation and that system is considerably better. I think DVD based navigation is old technology when you can just as easily download maps in real time from Google.

I think that most people's NAV opinions would change if they tried the new one with Google.

The Nav in our E53 is horrendous. Even worse than the VW it replaced. If you wanted standard seats, I don't see what the issues would be, but I agree that you should definitely go for ZCV then a nice Huper Optik tint instead of the useless privacy glass.

He's talking about buying a 2011 X5 - that would be the new system as in the 5 series that's hard disk based.

I understand, it is "considerably" better, but still not the best out there
