How do I eject DVDs from in-dash changer?

I'm trying to eject a DVD from my in-dash 6-disc DVD changer, but having no luck. I've pressed the eject button :
  • While the movie is playing
  • When the movie has stopped
  • When the audio source is something other than DVD
  • With the engine "on" and "off"
The eject motor makes a sound like it is trying to eject the disc, but nothing comes out of the slot. The owner's manual says nothing about ejecting discs from the in-dash changer, only the glove-box changer. BMW Assist was closed tonight, so I thought I'd try this forum.

Anyone experienced this and have an idea what I'm doing wrong?

@twowinns,

I eject DVDs with the car powered on but not running. DVD not playing. Source could be anything.

Press Eject button. Wait a second or two. All six DVD lights should start blinking. Press the button for the DVD that I want to eject. DVD gets ejected and, while still blinking, I pop a new DVD in.

You have 2009 X5. There is an entire "DVD Changer" section in the 2008 owner's manual on page 183,184 so you probably have that too. (The part that I've covered above is in bottom right of this image.)

Thanks for your suggestions guys. Unfortunately, I don't have a DVD setup like you. My DVD changer is in the dashboard, not the glovebox. I don't have lighted buttons to indicate which tray the disc is in, it just shows on the iDrive screen. I have read the owners manual pages you reference, but it doesn't indicate an eject process for my in-dash setup.

not doubting you, but are you sure you have a six disc in the dash? i have a six disc in the glovebox and it also shows up in idrive. plus with a disc in the dash the idrive reads as if the in dash cd is in position #6. even though i have 6 discs in the glovebox unit.

are you able to switch from disc to disc? try that a few times, maybe the discs are not aligned in the player quite right. what does the dealer have to say?

I am sure. There is absolutely nothing in the glovebox. My iDrive will indicate the disc number and track number of each disc in the bottom left hand corner of the display. I only have this one disc in slot 6, but I'll install another disc to see what displays.

I thought the DVD changer in the dash is for the Nav, but that you can also use it for audio - but that it is only a single DVD slot. The slot above it is a single cd only. There are two slots and an eject button beside each - have you pushed both buttons?

if i were a betting man i would wager you do not have a 6 disc in-dash DVD player. i don't have NAV so i can't say anything about the second slot on the dash as i don't have one of those either.

thing is, i don't think BMW sells an in-dash 6 disc player. if they did why would they put a second one in the glovebox or the trunk as in the older models?

Agree. Just get the media attachment and be done with dvd changers. The indash one is a single CD if you have it and the disk below is strictly for the NAV disk. 6 Disc should be in glovebox, if not, you don't have it. I think also its been removed from 2011 and on.
