Running boards

I'm starting to spec out my new X. Quick question with running boards. I like the way they look however do they?

1. Stick out so far that they hit your leg when putting kids into the car seats?

2. My dealer mentioned that some women complain that when dirty they rub up against and dirty a womans skirt - Don't need my wife pointing that out.

3. Does anyone ever use them? Are they functional? They look very small.

Thanks in advance.

Happy 4th!

I like it. You just have to pay attention and know that its there when getting in and out of your X. You'll get use to it. I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

My girlfriend actually said she has to use it getting in, but not getting out. I can see the dirt factor as an issue with clothes. I haven't had mine long enough to comment on that.
I must say I like the look though.

Great for loading the roof or washing the X

getting in and out you kind of get use to hopping over it, or some people choose to use it as a step to get in. I havent had any issues with dirty pants from it yet..

Pretty much what everyone says! I found the side steps great for cleaning the car, but annoying when they were wet or dirty!

I think they make the car look great, but I soiled many a pair of pants with them!!

a quick search on the issue will bring up an old debate that has been beaten to death. Most agree they look great but pose minimal value. Worth all 300 all day imo.

I think they may help with wet spray getting further up the side of the SAV but I sure never use them. I like the looks but they can discolor if you use commerical auto washing places. They look like they have been out in the weather for years. Then it takes work to shine them up again with all the rubber buttons in the way.

That said I got them on my replacement X5

I genuinely hate the boards... but once again, the looks made me get and accept them.
