Great points.
ARD thanks for posting the link to BMW's wear and use guidelines. It's really helpful.
My thoughts: The car is kept in a driveway at while home, therefore 40-60% of the time there's no opportunity for dings. There are some pretty good spaces at my office parking lot that I usually find, not near other cars, or with a pole in between, or on the end of the line. The only opportunity for door dings would be while shopping, or out and about in town; which lately, isn't very much.
Any mechanical issues will be covered under warrantee, and I really don't plan on doing anything aftermarket, only tint (which can easily be removed at lease end) and wheels, which I already own (and recently purchased new tires for) and they would be more of an asset to the lease, since for about 16 out of 36 months I'll be using the secondary set, reducing wear on the OEM run flats.
Alexmish, your point about the insurance being less than 10% of replacement costs is a good one. If i wear out the front two tires over the course of the 20 months (estimate) the stock wheels/tires are on the car, than I can replace them for probably around the same price as the insurance would cost.
Back to ARD. Why buy the tank before I use the gas? Right?
I think I'm leaning away from the Safe Lease program.
Thanks for your input!!
