Peeling Trim
I know this has been talked about many times but just wanted to inform everyone that is thinking about getting it replaced under warranty. I recently took my X into East Bay BMW and they came back saying it is a wear and tear item and would not be replaced under factory warranty. So I pushed the issue a little more and had my SA take some pics and send it into BMWNA, denied! So I then proceeded to contact BMWNA myself which I just received a call back same thing w&t item not under warranty. From my phone conversation with the rep it seems that it's actually up to the individual dealer weather or not they decide to replace it, go figure. She suggested that I try another dealer, what a joke and to be turned down again, I don't think so. I guess maybe if you purchased the car from them they might be a little more understanding, but since I purchased it from private party, you guessed it ...no such luck. To be honest how much can the cost really be for the dealer? I mean all the warranty work they are getting from me already you would think they would just have both pieces replaced and make me a loyal and happy customer.

Try, BMW of Fremont, they seem to be more courteous.
I read on the forum that someone else had the same issue and the dealer replaced the trim pieces.

Apparently the peel on the light control is very costly since they can't just pop out the knob, they actually need to replace the whole unit! Pretty stupid.
I totally hear you. I made such a huge fuss escalating the issue up and up that they finally agreed to replace it for me. But that's really uncalled for. The material just isn't made to last.

Yeah I might drop by if am in the area. I used to take my E55 to Fletcher Jones MB as they were very mod friendly. |

Had the light switch and steering wheel tabs replaced earlier this year on my 07. Both were peeling. No hassle from dealer. They do need to replace the whole light switch, not just the knob.

anybody able to confirm if they're using newer / different material on the new / replacement models? It's pointless replacing it (like I did a few months ago) if it'll just happen again in 2 years.

The replacements parts did not have the "rubbery" feel of the original. No coating on new parts.

Just update, BMWNA just called me back as another follow up and told me they were able to work out a deal with East Bay BMW to replace the parts at cost with no labor charge. So this definitely now confirms it's up to the indivial dealer as a courteous jester to the customer perhaps the amount of warranty work they can add or if you purchased the vehicle from them. I will try another Bay Area dealer (Fremont) now and see what happens.
